Hiring a Residential Architect in Manchester

If you need a Residential Architect in Manchester look no further than House Architects.

If you’re considering extending or refurbishing your home but you’re not exactly sure of the right layout or how to make sure the space feels right, then you probably need help from a qualified Architect.

But what does an Architect do, how much do they cost and do you really need one?

What does an architect do?

An architect is someone who is qualified to design and plan your home. Typically an architect spends 7 years becoming qualified, just like a doctor or a dentist, and there’s good reason for this! When it comes to your home you need to make sure that the person you’re engaging to design it understands the implications of their design, and isn’t going to design something that will leave the house in worse shape than before they came along!

Your home is often your biggest asset, and it is important to choose someone that has the experience and expertise to ensure everything is done to the highest standard.

We recommend shopping around, ask for recommendations and check reviews! However once you have narrowed down a shortlist it is always best to check that the person you’re dealing with is a registered architect, and that they haven’t had any previous action against them. It’s really easy to check on the Architects Registration Board’s website here http://architects-register.org.uk/. You can also check the https://members.architecture.com/directory/default.asp?dir=3

What does the process involve?

Most architects, like House Architects, offer a free initial consultation. This is so we can get a feel for your plans, answer any initial questions and make sure you are happy and comfortable working with us.

To begin the design process, you need have plans of your existing house drawn up. This involves something called a measured survey. A registered architectural technician or surveyor needs to visit your house and spend a few hours conducting a measured survey. Your architect can help you find a reliable contractor, but if you wish to source them yourself you should always check that the person or company surveying your home is on the CIAT or RICS register. Once they have visited your property your plans should be back in a week or two!

Your architect can now help you to design your future home. An architect will listen to your ideas and most importantly, try to find out the reasons why you want to arrange your space with the ideas you have. The problems you have with the layout or function of your current home and how you envisage using your future space are the most important piece of the puzzle in starting to produce your designs! Add your budget, absolute priorities, (e.g. extra bathroom, extra bedroom or open plan family space) and your architect can bring back ideas that should;

a) solve the current problems you’re having with your home

b) futureproof your spaces, and;

c) address your priorities within your budget

At House Architects we try to draw up at least 3 or 4 variations that meet your priorities but differ slightly in design and budget. During a live consultation we go through all your plans and can edit them in real-time, picking and choosing from different designs until we have the perfect compromise between dream home and budget!

Your Architect can then draw up your final plans, assist with requesting the necessary permissions and help you find reputable contractors.

Can I Afford an Architect?

We offer a range of affordable packages, see https://www.house-architects.co.uk/services-and-pricing/, however an initial consultation should usually be free, and not only give you an idea of your chosen Architects pricing but the cost of the work you would like completing. It is worth remembering an Architect can save you money in the long run by ensuring you have the most cost-efficient design for your needs and helping with the design, permissions and even build process!
